Summer School Day One: Using Shakespeare with SEND learners

Bamboozle’s Summer School offers a week of one-day training courses running from Monday 3rd August to Friday 7th August. Join us at the Curve Theatre in Leicester for a series of inspiring, hands-on sessions – plus one outdoor course held at Rowley Fields Allotments in Leicester.

These courses are particularly suitable for artists, practitioners, teachers, teaching assistants, support staff and SENCOs. Each day provides practical techniques, creative approaches, and fresh ideas you can take straight back into your setting.

Day One: Using Shakespeare with SEND learners

Monday 3rd August – 10am to 5pm at Curve Theatre

Transform Shakespeare’s stories into meaningful, sensory-rich experiences that connect with SEND learners. This immersive one-day course gives you practical, imaginative strategies to bring Macbeth, The Tempest, and other Shakespearean worlds to life – no prior Shakespeare expertise required.

This course will give you an opportunity to:

  • Discover how to make rich language accessible, meaningful, and exciting for diverse learners.
  • Learn how to build atmosphere and understanding through creative environments, including:
    • The Blasted Heath (Macbeth, Act 1)
    • The Shipwreck (The Tempest, Act 1 Scene 1)
  • Experiment with the Bamboozle Approach to help learners engage at their own pace using setting, sound, costume and Shakespeare’s text.
  • Gain practical tools to gently draw in students who may be hesitant, anxious, or disengaged.
  • Watch video extracts from Bamboozle’s production of Storm, an adaptation of The Tempest, and gather ideas you can immediately adapt for your own sessions.
