Winter Courses Day Two: Using Puppetry in your Practice

Bamboozle’s Winter Courses offers four days of one-day training courses running from Tuesday 9th – Friday 12th March 2027. Join us at the Curve Theatre in Leicester for a series of inspiring, hands-on sessions.

These one-day courses are suitable for creative practitioners, teachers, SENCOs, parents, carers or anyone working with children and young people. Each day provides practical techniques, creative approaches, and fresh ideas you can take straight back into your setting.

Wednesday 10th March: Puppetry

This one day course will give an introduction to how and why connecting through a puppet can be easier with SEND children. You will develop skills in puppetry using simple, effective techniques, both in making and manipulating puppets, and thinking creatively about implementing these skills within your workplace setting.

This course will be led by Co-Founder and Director of our Families & Community work, Sue Pyecroft. She has been the lead theatre designer for Bamboozle’s touring shows for many years, mentoring theatre design undergrads, and also developing the use of puppetry to connect with young audiences in performances.

What you can expect from this course:

  • Making a simple but effective puppet out of sustainable materials.
  • Building confidence in manipulating your puppet.
  • How you can use and play with puppets in a school setting using the Bamboozle Approach including video clips of puppets being used in Bamboozle performances  .
  • Puppet making workshop ideas – including examples of different types of puppet.
  • Free style puppet play with a variety of Bamboozle Puppets.
  • Finishing the session with a Q&A about any aspects of puppetry and use of it in different contexts.
