Sophia Lovell Smith studied Theatre Arts at Bretton Hall. She is a designer and maker for theatre, opera, dance and interactive performance for children, designing sets, costumes, masks and props. She runs school and community workshops for young people and set design courses for adults. Sophia believes theatre should be available for all ages – start them young! Our children are our audience and our future creative minds – weave a love and knowledge of live performance into the every day and support a positive society.

Design work includes – Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet (Guildhall Shakespeare Company), The Wintertime Hotel (Angel Exit & Theatre Alibi), The King’s Polar Bear (Full House Th), Catch A Sea Star (Seaglass Arts/Spitalfields Music), Once Upon A Whispering Wood (Theatre Royal, Brighton/Flock Th Makers), Winter Wonderland (Alibi, Angel Exit & Above Bounds Th), Tiny Magic Orchestra (Britten Sinfonia), Handa’s Surprise (Little Angel Th), Peace At Last (Opera Up Close), SALT (Lighthouse, Poole & Angel Exit), The Worst Princess (Full House Th), Chasing Dots (MishMash Prods & Royal Northern Sinfonia @ The Glasshouse, Gateshead), STEM Sisters (HMDT) and London Rhymes, a band making music for toddlers.

Plus other work includes Maanika & the Wolf (Polka Th), My Mother Said I Never Should (Crucible, Sheffield Theatre’s & fingersmiths), Paper Aeroplane (Half Moon Th/Offies 2021 finalist), The Bed (Little Angel Th/Offies 2020 finalist), Peter Pan & Me (Full House Th) and for Spitalfields Music (5 years designing for the Musical Rumpus Programme, creating work for babies).
